Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started in the field of radio and television reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). The following year, she was a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to chief congressional Correspondent. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell was a panelist, as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 to recognize her efforts to protect First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She covered many notable reports, including weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended many summits with the help of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
