Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at becoming popular were not successful. Two record labels signed her but dismissed her prior to having made any music. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, and received some interest due to its playful track. The song I Loved a Girl a straightforward ode expressing sexual curiosity backed with the beat of a hardedged electropop made her a larger splash within a couple of months. Some critics accused the song of encouraging homosexual relations, while others claimed the song's sexually explicit lyrics were designed to attract men with fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became the number one hit in the world due to its combination of sexual enticement and a refined tune. The song also assisted her to sell a number of albums, including One of the Boys. With its bouncy sharp-tongued second single Hot N Cold also proving to be a hit, the album that Perry created herself ultimately registered the sales of over three million copies in the United States.
